Anarchist Kindergarten

Project details

Programme
Unit PG21
Year 4

This project is a kindergarten located in Aarhus, Denmark. The site was previously a train station and was abandoned because of the development of the new harbour. An anarchist group made an agreement with the municipality to occupy areas at the end of the train rail. This strip is the space they claimed from the municipality. A part of this area was still redeveloped to a new school, and there were also new constructions going around. Research shows the similarity between an anarchist group and a kindergarten where people play and live in an uncivilised way to encourage creativity. While the kindergarten is highly valued by the Danish government, the anarchist group is not. Designing a kindergarten could help the anarchist group to create a dilemma and contest their territories. This project tries to practice this quality of keeping active to operate the kindergarten. The building splits into two parts. The dynamic part is the children’s playground supported by scaffolding. The fixed part includes a crane to allow for modifications, and the forms generated by the data.

Generating signals by analysing the local groups’ activity history.

Testing how the signals could influence the forms and its motions.
