The seed bank aims to protect the biodiversity of the future through a living collection of plants in the greenhouse and storage of seeds in the seed vaults. It also disseminates seeds to the public through its seed library. Plant research is carried out in the research labs to further scientific discovery in plants. The site is situated in Dungeness and straddles between the shingle landscape and marsh pits on a nature reserve.
The project looks at spatialising the satellite view from a digital approach. As a result of remote working, the design explores site resolution based on limited data. The project draws on data that includes satellite images, ecology surveys, terrain models, plant data and images of the site. This is applied to a series of scripts to explore colour and layers of resolution through a pixel and voxel block system.
A range of digital tools have been developed to spatialise colour, resolution and pixels.
Illumination of the research labs during the day and nighttime.
The drawer lined walls lend visitors seeds which they borrow at planting time and return at the end of growing season. Exhibits showcase their collection of seeds and plants.
The film explores the spatialisation of the satellite view and brings viewers through the seed library, the greenhouse, marsh gardens and the biogenic labs of the building.
