Project details

Programme
Unit UG10
Year 3

The programme is a musical festival in East London that celebrates the unacknowledged, yet incredibly culturally important, Venezuelan music scene in London. Held in Leytonstone, East London, the festival is a platform for encouraging collaboration between musicians from Venezuela and the UK.

The project is interested in visualising the intrinsic, yet completely unacknowledged, African influences that underpin our music and our lives. This was inspired by a focus over the last year on the identities of those who are neither seen nor celebrated.

Geographical Influences of Gaita, Venezuelan Calypso and Grime

An attempt to depict the geographical musical influences of the three genres of music celebrated at the festival.

Festival Toolkit

The festival is built from a kit of parts that can be rearranged into many different formations and uses.

Materials in the Project

Reclaimed timber, paints, bolts, cables, draped and hung fabric, and steel slices are used to create the festival toolkit.
